Playing With Fire is a Super Smash Bros video game tournament series in Houston. The tournament series is hosted by Fire Nation Smash, a competitive Smash Bros crew in Houston. I was tasked with creating the promotional graphics and overall branding for the tournament series.
Rising From The Ashes
For the logo's graphic, I was asked to create a visual representation of playing with a controller that was on fire. The bird was incorporated as symbolism of a bird rising from the ashes and has double-symbolism with a bird-based character from the Super Smash Bros video game. The wings on fire help create visual balance with the hands below the controller.
For the text portion of the logo, I used a font style that emulated brush strokes to communicate the rapid movement of a fire.
I was requested to design a leaderboard graphic template to use for weekly tournament results. I used a consistent diamond pattern throughout this design to represent sparks that are produced by flame. The diamond-shaped outlines were used to insert images of the players' characters. I kept consistent with the color scheme of the logo while also blending in warm tones to complement.
